History

Pole Exercise is more than just a workout. It is a way of liberating the mind and opening yourself up to new ideas. Many people have been inspired by what they can achieve in Pole Exercise and have been amazed by the confidence it has given them to explore new avenues in their lives.

Pole genesis

Pole Exercise was conceived by Lucy when she noticed a growing demand for alternative fitness programmes – programmes that help you get fit, but that are fun and motivating at the same time. Having owned her own pole for many years, Lucy realized the true potential of pole as a full body workout for both men and women. Drawing on her diverse fitness background (including experience as a scuba diving instructor and a skydiver), Lucy adapted and devised many new techniques to develop this innovative take on pole work.

Pole Exercise Club

Establishing the country’s first Pole Exercise Club at her university, Lucy taught her exclusive syllabus to women and men. They discovered just how addictive pole work can be, and even created a number of impressive new moves! The club grew rapidly to over 300 members in just two years and runs up to nine classes per week to meet demand.

Pole on show

Pole Exercise can also be truly spectacular. Last year, Lucy directed and produced Gold Rush, a hugely successful charity event in which club members performed to a huge auditorium. More than just a pole performance, it demonstrated the extensive skill and acrobatic strength needed to perform in a fluid and stylish manner on the poles. Choreographers worked with Pole Exercise members over 2 months, integrating many diverse dance styles from hip-hop to contemporary with dramatic pole moves to stunning effect. The event was a huge success, raising over £1,000 for Médecins Sans Frontières and showing once again that Pole Exercise is a fabulous workout to do!
